He even develops a second personality that is supposedly arrogant and indifferent. When they rushed collecting the required resources and knowledge to breakthrough, it's like they developed backwards. While the reasons for their rush is justified by wanting to create a passageway to save Qian, it's still a pretty forced one that those that enjoyed the previous tone of the novel may find frustrating.
