If the author didn't insist on creating a harem where all the female characters are madly, and in love with the protagonist, this story would be perfect.

I just remembered that I never gave it a review, so here it is. If I could give it a numerical review, then it'd be 3. 7/5 or 7/10. The story is honestly great. The underlying concept is not that special, but the execution makes it vastly different from the others with the same concepts. The desperation, the feeling of powerlessness, and the sheer one sided disadvantage that gets more and more prominent throughout the story is very effective at making the reader be at the edge of the seat with anxiety and bated breath praying that some form of miracle would happen. The author has a tendency to keep a certain pattern of constantly keeping an ongoing crisis in the story, with short peaceful breaks in between that only further emphasize the next upcoming disaster. The world building is one of my personal favorites exactly because of how raw and brutal it is especially when it comes to the duality of the modern world and the Paradise, how the chosen have to keep a balance between their lives in the two, how fantastical yet grim and filthy it is. The connection between the two worlds and the differences between the views of the natives of the two worlds, especially how each side tries to use each other in their own way and for their own ideals, is very well done. The characters and character developments are a mix. On one side some characters are pretty well written with captivating personalities, ideals, and beliefs that make you go through a variety of emotions throughout their development while on the other hand some are quite lackluster or downright nonsensical. Sometimes, you might shed a tear for how far someone has come and how beautifully they've grown, and sometimes you're questioning the thought process behind the decisions of some characters. The main character is a good example of this. Sometimes, the progress is beyond satisfying and well written, while at other times, you're questioning whether his age is actually a lot lower than what you know. Although the further you read through the story, his character gets more and more ironed out, and you'd encounter less of these questionable development decisions. I do have to say that the depiction of gambling addiction in this novel and the dynamics of an extremely addicted protagonist with his family and friends are the best ones I have seen in any LN or WN and one of the strongest aspects of the story. The action is genuinely impressive, and the power system is quite straightforward. The romance is also a mix. On one hand it's very obvious that this is a harem story and depending on whether you're into that or not this can be good or bad but on the other hand the harem aspects never cross a certain threshold in the main story and are solely focused in the side stories which again depending on your taste might be a good thing or a bad one. In the main story, romance is only with the main FML, and you'd only get the necessary clues that this is a harem without it becoming an actual one. As for the romance between the protagonist and the main FML, it's good. Nothing special or mind blowing that would make you cry rivers or have a skipping heart, but it does have its moments. As for the harem side, I don't know. I never bothered to read the side stories. The ending is also very satisfying when combined with all the ups and downs of the entire story, negative or positive, and it leaves you with that familiar and sweet sense of finishing a journey after a long while with a smile on your face and a fuzzy feeling in your chest. Overall, it is one of my personal recommendations with all of its imperfections and flaws.

Character development in last 100 chapter goes Brrrrr. . . / Starting is same as many Regressor novels. / Power system is very little bit unique [in starting it was confusing]. / MC is not a virgin but his mental fortitude is that of a 5 year child even though he was an engineer in top college but with no friends. so her GF grooms her. / He hookup again with his Ex [thing that I didn't like the most]. / Harem is very badly done. some Fl are forced into harem. / sometimes MC is dumbed down, so it looks forced like he forgets very important things. / Everytime a girl confesses he goes Pardon? Excuse me?/ Not the best ending. like nothing is told about who he marries in the end. / There are some cool moments. / Story progression is good. / Sometimes good & sometimes Bad. I forced myself to read it at 3 different points. / Better than most generic novels. /

Really wanted to love this novel, it started out strong and hooked me in but later on the author decides to make the MC retarded when it’s convenient to move the plot forward, or when it’s convenient to hint at a reveal for later on. Meanwhile when it comes to matters involving combat, or politics later on, MC somehow has an IQ far surpassing everyone around him. A lot of this can be played off as comedy or him being dense for not taking romantic hints, but it leaks into important plot points after a while and makes the character development feel all but worthless. The main plot is fine, the world is interesting, a lot of well thought out characters other than the MC, but since we’re following the MC a majority of the time (obviously) it really detracts from the story when he randomly has these retard mini-arcs and makes it feel inconsistent. That on top of pretty much every event after the intro being completely telegraphed and predictable takes quite a bit away from what could’ve been a great story.

I really loved the novel. The story of Jihu's redemption was super touching. He went through a lot of pain and misfortune but still chose to keep moving forward, and in the end, he came out on top. The story was so good that I finished reading this novel in just six days. I absolutely loved the ending and I'll definitely come back to reread it in the future.

22-08-24 After all the trash talk about the side stories, I gotta say I don't agree - they were fun, and the ending hit just right. Definitely a very good novel, with character development being slow but very satisfying. And while the MC is infantile in some of his actions, one way or the other there is a reason for that (if a weird one). If you have the time, I'd say the story is worth it even if you don't enjoy harems too much!

I really Love this web novel. The Main Character ist likeable and Not one dimensional. The Side Character are well writen too. The Harem part is Not needed in my opinion, but I highly recommend Reading this one.

I am a psychology researcher, and I have to say: the way the characters in this novel think and act sometime hurts my eyes and fries my brain, from both main character and side characters. This novel is good in that it has many situations that can make the reader have boiling emotions. However, the psychological logic of the characters has many holes that does not match the character's personality and abilities, especially when plot twists are written. If you're only interested in roiling emotions and crude humor, you might enjoy this novel. If you like having super smart characters competing against each other, stay away from this novel.

If we do like smart characters competing against each others, do you have recommendations ? (Doesnt have to be webnovels).

I like this novel, it‘s good and has a certain character to it that makes it appealing with facts like the Mc not being unreasonable powerful from the get-go and such BUT I will have to warn you that no real character development is happening for the first 300 chapters but BEAR WITH IT, it‘s 100% worth it even though the Mc is kinda insanely dense. Still thank you, author, for this great masterpiece! Definetely in my top 5 if not top 3 <3

I like the power system, people dont just get strong by chance or by being with mc. The main plot is chatchy and good overall. Read this ages ago and still remember eagerly waiting for each weekly release.
