    Cant believe it took me to 2200 chapters before I realized this isnt a cultivation novel. The peak of this realm still has normal life span. :(((

    the dislike limit on this website never ceases to disappoint me. The amount of comments I wanted to dislike because they are giving the novel too much credit. This book is average AT BEST; 3/5, and that's a stretch. realistically, it's a 1/5, and because it has so many chapters full of the same garbage over and over again, it's 0/5. Power: as someone mentioned below me, each person can only use the same one skill at equal levels. terrible Plot: MC is overpowered, over-glazed, and for 'some reason' stronger than people levels above him. lots of plot holes, and plot armor. a new ability was created literally just for MC Romance: garbage. he keeps chasing one girl who for dumb reasons can't be with him. also goes after other women, but for some reason side characters think he's loyal?? anyway, classic Chinese novel, with it's 2d characters who are arrogant for plot, and too stupid for brain. I don't know how this is top 100, or why so many like it. I'd say more but reached word limit

Notice how both sides have equal amount of people? Notice how they are all one gender(with a lot of exceptions)? Notice how none of them are disabled(or all disabled like Paralympic sports)? WHY? Because equality is considered a good thing. I won't act like it's always equal. There are lots of things which can upgrade someone's spells to. So a stronger spell could deal 20x or more damage compared to a default one. It' would cost you all your net worth so it's not like it's easy to get. There are also a lot of different elements so if person has all mobility elements, it could counter someone who has all damage elements and is a glass cannon. Variety is not lacking at all. This is only the tip of the iceberg.

        I'm sorry if I couldn't go into detail about what I meant, but there's a word limit so I had to keep it short and concise. Of course, I'm still mad you basically ignored what I said and went on about equality. People at the beginner level can only use one attack. they just spam that one spell until they win. Or plot armor protagonist comes along with his abilities and special powers author created just for him. Besides the MC, everybody mainly uses one spell, usually their strongest (most useful) spell. and then if they don't win they become flabbergasted. also MC is unconditionally stronger than all of his enemies, even if they are of a higher level and supposed to be stronger than him, so there isn't equality I don't care if they have the same spells as opponents. I want them to have more spells, and use them well. That way there would be variety, and fights would be more interesting than just basically a Pokemon brawl where they just use one thing and take turns doing so

        I don't know which part of the novel your talking about since it's very vague but it seem like it's only the beginning. How far did you read? MC is theoretically twice as strong as any body at his level but he always faces people or a group of people who are 10 or 100 times stronger then him. There are way to many situations where he has to challenge himself even when he has duel elements. His "special ability" also has a insanely high cost. He can't use it any time. The times he does, he had no choice. You keep harping about how they don't have enough spells and they can only spam their strongest ones but... that's basically the entire point of the journey of advancing to the next rank. Each time you advance, you can go open a loot box and see which element you are going to unlock. with each new element you get more spells and at the end when you have like 6 or 7 elements, you would have like 36 or more spells which are probably completely different from the default ones.

      Honestly I do not care about objectivity this was my first novel ever and I will love it until the end of my lifespan. It isn't perfect but it's perfect to me. The conclusion had me nearly crying. I read this first when it was at 800 chapters in middle school caught up in one month stopped reading until it was at 1200 read it from the start again caught up. stopped rinse repeat until the good translation got to 1900 chps (this website basically) and found a better than machine translation website with the whole novel on it (not really...) read it all and then fast forward 3 years I come back out of nostalgia and found out there was 16 chapters I never read, read them and I fell in love again. Hating on the main cast is crazy. By the way the english translation isn't very good and it skimmed a lot of character bonding moments that the mandarin version had. Mu bai, Mo Fan, Zhao Manyan, Zhang Xiaohao, are all great characters.

        I hate to rain on your parade and be kind of a jerk, but... ... most of those have almost nothing in common with this novel. Only some of them are similar in idea but that's it. When someone asks for 'something similar' they don't want you to list a bunch of novels that you liked, they want novels that actually are similar to what they liked.

        Like is subjective and a few on this list are in fact like Versitile Mage in some facet. You will not find Carbon Copies of the original that's just how it is. I did put in a few I personally liked, guilty, but I leveled it out by also putting in a few that are good by consensus of many sites. Having more options or possible choices is a good thing. You never know something you would've never considered before might turn out to be awesome! So with all this said offer up your own picks let discovery be their choice to make. Of course you don't have to that choice is yours to make.

        Sad part is I couldn't find any that similar to it. You could try the tempest trilogy I remember reading that after one of my rereads of this. The first one isn't translated in english it could be being translated now ( its been at least 3 years now) second one is called Tempest of the Battefield, the last one is Tempest of the stellar war both are fully translated and you don't need to really know what happened in the first one besides you'll just miss out on abunch of cameos but you'll notice them like crazy in stellar war if you read it in order Theres also battlefrenzy made by same author as the tempest trilogy I would say it's better than tempest of the stellar war for sure. and it's quite similar to Versatile mage in the romance aspect besides no haram I think it's been a long long time. Reverend Insanity gave me the same feeling as this novel did but it's way different and you've probably already read it. Obv reccs are shadow slave as well

        Try reading swallowed star. I'm on chapter 2 or something so I don't really know how similar they are but from what I've read, they have similar concepts but are also very different.

    I went to chapter 120 and even at that point the romance is very bad, I've never seen a magic power system so bad lol everyone of the same element and at the same level can only use the same spell

    Hmmm don't remember much from when i read but as far as i remember wasn't a bad novel Fight were kinda fun and blood boiling So I'd say somewhere around 4.6/5

    Last time I read this, the translation turned horrendous around chapter 2700. Now there are new chapters coming out again, I’ve gotta ask before I reread if the translation is fixed or not. I loved reading this novel so I’ll give it another go if the translation holds out all the way through.

    I lasted 1191 chapters and couldnt take it any more. Classic villains and useles allies and i mean completely useles the plot feels 100% forced most and i mean 99% side characters suck incliding fmls. Power system sucks and the author can say one thing first chapter and the complete opposite im the second one. Overall its chinese novel, you habe to turn your brain off and read. I lasted only this much

    Overall: 4.2-4.3/5 the overall novel is good only issues are with the ending and plotholes (it might be because the translations were wrong and it's not plotholes, but I don't know). other than that, the novel is an entertaining read if you are looking to read something for a while, it has comedy, epic fights, and okay-ish romance (it is harem and I don't agree with a couple of choices, IMO). I would highly recommend it for people looking for a good cultivation novel.

    Guys is this finished? I usually don't read Chinese novels, but the Manhua was pretty decent, so I thought I would give it a try now that it has been discontinued. If anyone knows, can you let me know what chapter the manhua left off on? Also, is this translated or MTL? I don't want to have a headache every time I read a sentence.

      How did you even lime the manhua? Its pure garbage after the first few arcs no explanation of the powers, no details during fights and weird manhua panels. The novel is so much better than that. I think you should start reading novel from the ancient capital arc because the manhua was decent before that

        To be honest my standards for manhua are insanely low. As long as it is understandably translated, with decent art, and a storyline that actually makes sense or isn’t 100% plot armor I can read it without too much disappointment. This filled 2 of those, and seemed interesting for the first 900 chapters. Then it got more boring and less understandable, but I kept reading cause the had already read 900 chapters. Then they axed it and I wanted to continue the story. It’s looking like the web novel would better.

        Release that witch is a pretty good kingdom building manhwa. Not bad, but there is a bunch of sucking up to the CCP in there. The novel is also on this site. I have not personally read these but I have been told that they were decent: Logging in 10,000 years into the future. Catastrophic Necromancer is good power fantasy when you turn your brain off. And Demonic Evolution was ok, and My Wife is from a 1,000 years ago is a cute romance. This is as far as I can give for manhua, just because I don't read it too much.

        Latna Saga: Survival of a Sword King in a Fantasy World is a really good fantasy, with good powers and world building. ORV is a really good apocolypse manhwa, and has a completed novel. Legend of the Northern Blade is one that recently completed, it is a murim manhwa, and one of the best. The Novel's extra has a pretty decent manhwa, also has a novel. Return of the Mount Hua Sect has a good manhwa as well. Eleceed is a good modern day secret super power society manhwa with good slice of life. The beginning after the end is also really good manhwa and novel, with fantasy elements. The Greatest Estate Developer is a good comedy manhwa. The Archmage's Restaraunt is good slice of life and food. Return of the Mad Demon is a comedy Murim. Dark Mage Transmigrates 66,666 years is decent as well, standard power fantasy slop. Ending maker has a good novel and manhwa, and is action and romance themed. Dungeon Oddessy is pretty good kingdom building, and is good comedy. Thats all I have.

      ngl I honestly would recommend you reading it from scratch through the novel and this is smt I don't usually say, I have read this novel 3 times and I'm sure if I read it again I still wouldn't get bored and the first time I read it the novel was roughly translated so yk that's saying smt

    The ending is meh, if it really is the ending considering it just feels so unfinished, but the novel itself is a very good read despite it's ups and downs. The MC is entertaining and you won't ever get bored of him - he's very shameless in funny way, the side cast is extremely solid, memorable and they stick around until the very end not to mention each of them has their very own plot and character arc going on seperate from Mo Fan. Although just like any other Chinese novel - asspulls, convenient plot points and faceslapping is also part of the package. The translation goes bad at certain points and the author also has a tendency to forgot what he wrote. Romance is there too, if you're looking for that. Power system is good but unfortunately by the time we get to the end it has become very 'abstract' thanks to powercreep and there is basically no sense, rythm or rule in what a character can or cannot do with their abilities - so it kinda becomes hard to keep track of it IMO.
