Finished this about a year ago and decided to take the time to write a short review overall the story is great and the mc doesn't randomly become op in the story he strives for perfection in each realm before progressing and one of the best parts of the novel is how er gen takes the time to flesh out his villans and show how difficult they are to beat and the ending is great and doesn't make u feel like u wasted ur time reading its simply a great cultivation novel that doesn't abuse clichés

As with every other popular move I review, this will surely get disliked into oblivion, but my point stands true. Er Gen does nothing to distinguish this novel from his previous ones, nor from the generic cultivation novels you see written by a first-time author. Er Gen somehow writes incredible romance for side characters that last 1 chapter, but absolutely fumbles the bag when it comes to the MC; as such, I along with the majority of readers are actively rooting against the love interest. Er Gen continuously reuses the same awful tropes throughout the entire novel, even when they make absolutely zero sense (why are they actively disrespecting someone who they know is the literal f*ck*ng chosen one), which made me genuinely start skipping chapters. Er Gen does have some good foreshadowing, and a singular great emotional moment, but abhorrently generic tropes, boring characters, and constant plot holes make this unbearable for anyone that wants to read something deeper than pure action.

I read this about a year ago, and it was my first Er Gen novel. The plot itself isn't groundbreaking, but where this story really shines is in how it conveys emotions like sadness, anger, and grief. I won't spoil anything, but the emotional weight is definitely a strong point. On the downside, most of the side characters felt mediocre to me, except for three standouts. Two are companions of the MC and are consistently a highlight whenever they appear, often carrying parts of the story. The third is a grumpy, unreliable old figure who adds a lot of personality to the novel. There’s also 'romance, ' though I use the term loosely since the characters at some point basically go no-contact until near the end. In my opinion, it would’ve been better without it. The fights, however, are epic, and the techniques the MC develops are top-tier—like, truly impressive in both concept and execution. Overall, it's a solid read that kept me invested from start to finish. Highly recommend!

I really really enjoy reading this. It is so funny and exciting. It starts a bit slow but if you are a fan of developed character, I think you will enjoy it.

I would prefer if the rating system allowed a bit more precision. If I was being critical it'd be a 4. 4. However due to the low quality standard of cultivation stories in general I usually go easier on the rating. . . so this is like a 4. 8 cultivation story wise. The writing is pretty good and the the story has decent pacing. I only got to Ch. 497, so far, after a few days of reading. I've started to lose a bit of interest and am picking up "Reverend Insanity" to take a break from this. There are two main problems I have with this story: 1) The (power) cultivation system - The story follows a traditional type of cultivation where a cultivator transcends to a new stage that is significantly more powerful than the previous stage each time. I personally dislike this system because it makes it far more unrealistic for the MC to always prevail (i. e. plot armor). In reality they'd just be killed by someone 3+ stages and the story would be over. This just leads to being told "no one can beat 1+ stage above them" then the MC doing exactly that. Just becomes very predictable. 2) The worldbuilding There's a lot of "courting death" but it's not the cliché type. It's more part of the worldbuilding. 95%+ of cultivators have 0 qualms about mass murder. A cultivator killing thousands+ of people is seen as normal. There's no law besides power. Just wish there was a bit more balance and complexity to the worldbuilding.

This was the first Er Gen novel I read and I have to admit it was a really good read. It starts off pretty slowly establishes a premise and sticks to it. What Ioved about this novel is how the MC didn't really get "OP" all of a sudden. His strength was built off the notion of "perfection" in each cultivation state. His strength didn't really become overwhelming until a little later when all the benefits converged and it just snowballed from there on. I liked the fact that we actually followed him and understand why hes stronger than all his peers and how he dominates. We SEE his progression clearly. For my first Er Gen novel I give this 10/10

3rd Book in Er Gen’s catalog and my second favorite. My Ranking; Pursuit of Truth>ISSTH> Renegade Immortal. While Meng Hao is my least fav Mc of Er Gen’s, he is in no way a bad character. In beginning he is a scholar, so he’s smart and shows it early in the story, he’s greedy for spirit stones, and is a very fun character. The reason ISSTH is my second favorite novel is because of the story progression and the character interactions. In Renegade Immortal the character interactions, for the most part, forgettable, while in ISSTH it is the exact opposite Er Gen has truly developed in dialogue. So, good dialogue and good progression try it out 9. 5/10.

It’s an amazing series with one of the funniest MC’s ever! It’s a great series if you like overpowered characters that then get overpowered!!!
