I first read this novel years ago and recently decided to reread it. It’s one of the books I truly enjoyed, earning a spot in my top 20. I’ve read SS, COI, LOTM, RI, DE, and other popular books that people hype up, but my top 10 consists of those I feel deeply connected to. Taste is subjective, what some people dislike might be enjoyable to others. I’ve explored books across different genres, and while some weren’t for me, I wouldn’t call them bad since they might be someone else’s favorite. Having an open mind is important, especially after reading well-written books that set a high standard. I also enjoy discovering hidden gems less popular books that turn out to be great. Instead of relying on ratings or rankings, I choose books that catch my interest, give them a try, and often end up enjoying them.

It's called *Desolate Era*. I first came across it in the comment section of some groups, and it caught my attention, so I decided to give it a try. I think it was ranked somewhere in the 50s. I finished it last week and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. At first, I was overwhelmed by the exaggerated details especially the immense ages and sizes of both living and non living things in the novel. But after a few hundred chapters, I got used to it. A flexible imagination definitely helps, lol. I’d say give it a try if it interests you, but of course, we all have different preferences when it comes to books. Personally, I really enjoyed it!

Steel and Sorrow: Rise of the Mercenary King It’s not a cultivation novel, but the kingdom building in it is great, beyond great. The MC starts as a slave, forms a mercenary group through an event, and then settles as a prince in a princedom through an event which makes sense, the Author is putting so much effort into it (author doesn’t come out with stuff from his bottom, the losses and gains are realistic, and the MC won’t just chance upon sh*t he has to work to gain what he wants.), you just gotta bear through the first 60 chapters due to the unkind amount of POVs.

The World Online is the only kingdom building novel I know. It's decent, but it has Chinese propaganda as well as slow progress (because territory building takes time), which means a lot of filler. Some people find it boring, others think the territory building, although slow is awesome. Personally I think the way he builds up his territory is interesting; I just don't care to read it because it does genuinely get boring after a while.

Is it in some video game or something? Or does the 'online' entail something else.. I dont mind spoilers.

this isn't really a spoiler, you learn these things first few chapters I think. In fact, you can learn it by reading the summary of that book lol but basically it is a VR MMO game that later becomes super impactful on your real life. I don't know exactly how, but depending on how well you do in the game affects your future positively

sword god world of magic is not that dark dude still has his morals story is more focused on the protagonist's endless psychological traumas than anything else. He always, blames himself, then convinces himself he was right and gets over it, a while later someone comes along and helps him get back on the right path. So after a few chapters, you think the protagonist has become a nice person, but then the cycle repeats itself. in my list i focus more on the inhumane unmorally MC's.

Oh wow, we’ve read entire different novels with the same author and title dayum, when have you stopped reading ? Chapter 50 ? lmao…an MC that starts as a villain without character development is just a badly done character. If you want a spoiler on when Alex starts turning into a full fledged Shang i can spoil you. the novel is a gem, you’ve just haven’t been patient enough. (i dropped it multiple times at the start too lol)

To be honest, I hate the mc, I hate his goals, I hate the fact that with every character progression he seems to get worse- but for some reason i read the whole thing. The power system is well thought out, the world building is detailed and great, the narrative style is unique and engaging, while i might not like the path the character is walking, there is character growth- lots of it. The god who brought him to this world is manufacturing circumstances around him to make him fked up. At one point, when Shang has found decent allies in an organization that supports him, and when he's in a situation where he can grow reasonably without undue pressure or difficulty, the god personally kills the two people in that organization who've been kind to Shang and supported him, because the god wants entertainment, and Shang growing in power comfortably with support from others is not entertaining. It's not hard to see why Shang is so f*ck*d up mentally after things like that.

Exactly, the journey is just that good, to the point that it keeps you from dropping. Not that any other category is badly done tho.

ty, I just have a question. Are you saying you think these are all good which is why you are recommending all of them? Or are you just recommending books of that genre. If so, can you please rank them, or say specifically which ones from the list you actually liked? I'm sorry if this comes across as rude, but I don't want to search from a pile of unranked novels hoping to find a gem. If I wanted to I could do that with a few filters.
